Axfood’s CFO Karin Hygrell-Jonsson has informed the CEO and Board of Directors that she intends to leave her assignment at the same time as departing CEO Anders Strålman, at the Annual General Meeting on 15 March 2017. The process of finding a new CFO will begin immediately, and Anders Lexmon, who has been with Axfood for many years, will serve as acting CFO.
Karin Hygrell-Jonsson took office as CFO in 2007 and has worked in the Axel Johnson Group for more than 25 years. During her tenure Axfood has grown from SEK 29 billion to SEK 43 billion in sales and is today the undisputed number two player in the Swedish food retail market.
“Karin has been at my side during all of my years as CEO of Axfood, and it is in many respects owing to Karin’s fortitude and competence that we have succeeded in building a group with extreme cost control and good order,” comments Anders Strålman, departing CEO of Axfood. “This is the entire difference between profit and loss in our business. As Karin has now made this decision I hope that she will be able to share her competence in future board assignments for many years to come.”
“After ten years as CFO I feel it is time for me to shift my focus from an operational to more of an advisory role,” says Karin Hygrell-Jonsson. “I currently serve on a few boards and hope to gain more such opportunities. My years at Axfood and in the Axel Johnson Group have been enormously rewarding and fulfilling, and I have great confidence that the team that I have helped build up will take Axfood to the new heights.”
Karin Hygrell-Jonsson will leave her role as CFO at the Annual General Meeting on 15 March, but will continue working until the summer in order to be on hand and conclude a few internal assignments.
