Axfood's sales of organic products up 6.3%
Demand for organic products continued to rise at Axfood's store chains – Willys, Hemköp and PrisXtra – in 2011. Sales of organic food increased by 6.3% at Axfood's wholly owned stores.
"The main reason, of course, is customer demand for organic products," says Åsa Domeij, Head of Environment at Axfood. "But the fact that we have increased our organic offering to 1,300 products has also played a role."
The number of items carried by Axfood's Garant ekologiska varor private label, which are sold at Hemköp and Willys stores, among others, doubled in 2011.
"Garant organic milk came out on the market quite late during the autumn, so we will not see the effects of that launch until 2012," says Åsa Domeij. "The price difference between Garant organic milk and conventional milk is so small that it has great prospects to be a big seller."
